Coaches

Patrick DeMartine

Coach D competed in Policy debate, Congressional debate, and Dramatic Interpretation while he was on the Mullen High School Speech and Debate team for all four years of high school.  He earned 8 outstanding speaker awards in Congressional debate and was a state qualifier and 1st alternate National Qualifier in Policy debate.  The skills he learned in Speech and Debate benefited him in college specifically in student government. After graduating from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1992 with a degree in Computer Science, speech and debate helped him with operational reviews and business proposals to executive management, and presentations to thousands of attendees at user conferences.  He is currently a Senior Director of Platform Product Management at Blue Yonder and has coached the Loveland Speech and Debate team since 2017.

Jennifer Jantz

Coach J has been a Speech teacher at Loveland for 20 years!  She has also taught speech at Aims, Front Range, UNC, and CU-Denver.  She competed in Lincoln Douglas debate and Extemp at Park Hill High School in Kansas City where her head coach was Don Crabtree, former President of the National Forensics League.  After attending the University of Kansas for three years, Coach J moved to Colorado and earned her Bachelor's Degree in Speech Communication with an emphasis in Secondary Education from the University of Northern Colorado and continued there earning her Masters Degree in Human Communication.  She also has her Education Leadership certificate from Colorado State University.  In her spare time (huh?) she enjoys sports, the outdoors and spending time with her family.  She has been an Assistant Coach at Loveland since fall 2019.

Deena Pettit

Coach Deena is a stellar former duo competitor who qualified multiple times for the NSDA national tournament.  She is a tremendous parent with one of the students wanting to be just like her if she is a mom. An incredible marketing exec for ADP, she earned her undergrad at Colorado State University.  Deena specializes in speech events allowing Loveland to take all of the Humorous Interp national qualifications for the District.  Deena earned the coveted District Assistant Coach of the Year in 2023.
